West
Lincoln Optimist sponsors four youth football teams. The
Varsity team consists of young men between the ages of 11-12, ages 9-10
for Junior Varsity, ages of 7-8 for Mitey Mites and ages 5-6 for our
Tiney Mites team. We are affiliated with the Southland AYF
Conference which is the largest youth football league in both North and
South Carolina.
Conditioning practices begin around the last week of July in preparation for the upcoming season. Practices are weekly throughout the season on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 6pm-8pm. Cost of registration for the 2010 season is $65.00 per player. A football registration form can be downloaded here. Please bring this completed form with you to sign-ups.
At West Lincoln Optimist, everyone is a winner and everyone plays. The only exception to everyone playing would be in the event the opposing team continues to play their first string players. We will not substitute a smaller player to play against a bigger player for the sole reason we will not purposely place any player in a potential situation where the likelihood of them being injured is greater than the normal risk.
Our coaching staff take great pride in teaching our players correct fundamentals of football as well as discipline. These are skill sets that we believe will follow our young men throughout all aspects of their lives leading to many successes in the future.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Last chance for all Junior Varsity, Mitey Mites and
Tiney Mites football players to do their weigh-in. Any player that
has not weighed-in will need to bring their helmet and game jersey only as well
as a CERTIFIED COPY (with raised stamp) of their Birth Certificate.
This last weigh-in will be held at the East Lincoln Optimist Club from
5:30 pm until 8:00 pm. Any player failing
to
weigh-in will not be allowed to play in any game.
Directions to East Lincoln Optimist Club:
Any parents that are interested in following other parents to the
weigh-in need to meet at the West Lincoln Optimist Park between 1:15 and
1:45. Take Hwy 27 East out of Lincolnton, turn left onto Hwy 73.
After you pass East Lincoln High School, turn left onto the new Hwy 16
North (towards Newton). Take the first Right (1st intersection)
which is Optimist Club Road. The Optimist Club will be on the
right at the top of the hill!

Rule Changes for Southland AYF Conference
1. All players from the Junior Varsity team down to the Tiney Mites team will have to produce a certified copy of their birth certificate at time of weigh in to verify the players age and appropriate team placement.
2. Due to recent heat related deaths across the United States, Southland AYF has adopted a water break rule that will be implemented this season. Officials will call a time out every 4-5 minutes to allow for the players to hydrate. In the event a team has momentum and are on a sustained drive, the officials will wait until either 4th down or score before calling the time out.
3. In the event a parent of spectator becomes unruly during a game, the official may either give a warning or eject that person from the game. In the event the parent or spectator refuses to leave, that person may be subjected to being arrested for 2nd Degree Trespass or the head football coach will be ejected from the game. Please see the Code of Conduct Page for expectations of parents. If in the event you are directed by an official to calm down or leave the premises, please follow their directions so as to avoid any consequences for either yourself or for our team.
