Cheerleading
West
Lincoln Optimist provides cheerleading opportunities through our
Mascot, Pee Wee and Midget Cheerleading Squads.
Placement on a cheerleading squad is based on a try-out procedure that
is held in the Spring. Dates, Times, and Locations will be
announced as try outs for Cheerleading approaches.
Cheerleading takes a lot of hard work and at this age a lot of dedication from the parents. This is a big commitment both of time and money. The information below will provide you with a basic outline of our program and times of practice, games, and other functions that are currently planned and the procedures we use for tryouts.
NUMBER OF CHEERLEADERS:
8 Mascots
20
Peewees
20 Midgets
(All numbers are approximate. Coaches may take a few more or less as
they see fit. The maximum number allowed is 10 for Mascots and 30
for Peewees and Midgets.)
AGES:
Mascots –
Rising K – 1st Grade
Peewees - Rising 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grade
Midget – Rising 5th, 6th, & 7th Grade (Cannot be 13 before November 1,
2007)
TRYOUTS:
NO ONE
will be allowed in the gym during practices or tryouts. Doors will be
locked.
After practices & tryouts, PARENTS MUST COME IN TO PICK UP CHILDREN!
PRACTICES: Practices will begin July 21 and will continue every Monday and Tuesday from 6:15-7:45 p.m. Additional practices may be added later in the season as we work towards Competitions. This will be at the coaches’ discretion and may vary depending on the team’s need. Practices will be at West Lincoln Optimist and moved to West Middle no later than mid September. (Midgets will be doing some flexibility and conditioning work to increase their safety.)
GAMES: Football games are played on Saturdays. They are every
Saturday from August 30 (Labor Day weekend) thru late October or mid
November. Each game is played at different locations in the area.
COMPETITIONS: Peewees and Midgets will compete in 2 competitions.
If Southland does a cheer off this year, it will count as a competition.
More than one competition allows the kids to improve their performance.
Competition fees will not be needed until sometime around October.
Expect approximately $60; however, it may be less.
FUNDRAISERS: We are doing fundraisers this year. Part of the proceeds will go toward uniform purchases, if you choose to do so. The other part will go towards more mats for the kids so that they can have two groups of stunting and/ or gymnastics simultaneously.
